Yard strategy
Prevention is better than cure: a practical plan for keeping contagious disease off your yard.

From time to time there are outbreaks of equine diseases, some highly contagious, for example strangles, equine influenza, equine herpes or ringworm.
We are very happy to discuss yard strategy for preventing and managing contagious diseases with our clients and yard managers. As always, prevention is better than cure, and we aim to help you develop an effective, easy-to-follow strategy covering:
- Biosecurity
- New horses coming onto the yard
- Horses coming and going for competitions
- Monitoring for contagious disease
- Vaccine programmes (see equine vaccinations)
Please contact the practice if you would like help with your yard strategy, to set up a meeting, or if an infectious disease is diagnosed and you need advice.
