Puppy socialisation

Happy visits now mean a calmer, more confident dog at the vets for life.

Puppies have a short window of opportunity when they learn to accept new things much more easily. It closes gradually until, at around 16 weeks of age, they start to be more suspicious and fearful.

New experiences, different people and other animals tend to be tolerated and enjoyed better before this time ends.

Visit us any time

You are welcome to bring your new puppy to visit us at the surgery any time. Owners get to meet some of the team, and your puppy has a positive, fun visit.

We notice that dogs who have visited the surgery outside appointment times are less anxious and are pleased to come to the surgery ever after. It helps with any procedures needed and makes less pleasant times easier to accept.

Please speak to our lovely reception team for more information and to discuss suitable visit times.

Next steps

Puppy obedience and socialisation training classes are a good progression to consider, and we can give you local contact information. See also Your new puppy.
