Farm
As a team we work together to provide an excellent service for cattle and sheep, on farm and at the surgery.
Farm services
With a modern, state of the art ultrasound scanner and a headset that gives our vets greater mobility on farm, we can tell the age, health, size and number of foetuses. Where no pregnancy is detected, we can investigate why.
Dehorning, castrations, disbudding and foot trimming. Calving, lambing, and examination and treatment of sick or injured livestock.
Fertility testing, including semen collection, can be carried out on farm or, for smaller animals, at the surgery.
Hi Health (BVD, IBR, Johne's and Lepto) and Sheep Flock Scheme testing (EAE, Maedi-Visna and Scrapie).
Bespoke herd and flock health plans tailored to your farm, compliant with HiHealth, the Red Tractor Standard and farm assurance.
We have vets qualified and experienced in livestock exports.
Our vets are Official Veterinarians (OVs) and carry out work on behalf of DEFRA, including tuberculin testing, anthrax investigations and brucella abortion investigations.
Orkney is home to many great food products enjoyed around the world. Our vet Kate holds a DEFRA Product Export licence, enabling her to certify food products for export.
Facilities
Our large animal area at the surgery is suitable for a variety of procedures, including ram semen testing, sheep caesareans, ram vasectomies, dripping calves, small operations and post mortem examinations.
We use our in-house laboratory to process blood samples and carry out worm and fluke checks, giving a fast, efficient service.
